‘Disco Mania’ to cap Camp Challenge effort

2 min read

A visit to Camp Challenge in Central Florida, which Easter Seals of Florida operates for kids and adults with disabilities, sparked a seven-year fundraising campaign by Barbara Watt, founder and CEO of Century 21 Sunbelt Realty in Cape Coral, to provide a shelter building for the campers and staff.

“The building is greatly needed to give the kids somewhere to go to get out of the sun and rain,” said Lillie Moroles, director of operations and business development for Sunbelt Realty. “Part of the pavilion will be used as a dining hall.”

To fund the project, Sunbelt Realty is organizing a Disco Mania event on Nov. 29 at the Cape Cabaret to help raise the final $50,000 of the project’s cost of $400,000. Disco Mania runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the hall, located at 4725 Vincennes Blvd.

The 63-acre camp offers ziplining, swimming, archery, dancing, sports, music, drama and more. Easter Seals has been providing these memories to the disabled for more than 50 years.

Over the last seven years, Sunbelt Realty has staged car washes, yard sales, family fun days and various other fundraising events, but the end is now within reach with Disco Mania. The firm also established a “Closings for Camp Challenge” program where agents elect to donate a portion of their commission from each sale to the project.

Tickets are available online at $21 each or a table for eight can be reserved for $168. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

“There is a buffet dinner, DJ music and prizes for a silent auction, a dance contest, a photographer taking photos and a cash bar,” said Moroles. “We are asking people to show up in costume with a ’70s disco theme.”

Joe Holder of Sweet Tunes Entertainment will provide the disco music. The buffet consists of chicken marsala, roasted red Irish potatoes, veggies, salad and dessert.

Local business sponsors are asked to contribute for the cause. Century 21 agents will thank all those sponsors donating $1,000 to $5,000 with an invitation to a special champagne event that starts 30 minutes before Disco Mania.

“We would really like our local businesses to step up and help put us over the top of the fundraising,” said Moroles.

Cape Cabaret was recently renovated and now offers a 30-foot stage, the largest dance floor in the area and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system.
