Motorcyclist hospitalized after serious Cape accident

1 min read

A motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital last night following a serious crash in Cape Coral.

As of today, David B. Adair, 58, of North Fort Myers, was listed in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported after the crash on Hancock Bridge Parkway, officials reported.

According to police, Adair was driving a Harley-Davidson Sportster eastbound on Hancock and approaching the intersection at Southeast First Place. At 10:58 p.m., the motorcycle drifted toward the left and struck the inside median curb. The impact caused Adair to lose control of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle traveled southeast across the eastbound lanes, where Adair was ejected.

He and the motorcycle came to rest on the outside shoulder of the roadway.

Police reported that Adair sustained multiple life-threatening injuries to his head and neck in the accident. Lee County EMS and Cape fire crews responded and he was trauma-alerted to the hospital.

Adair was not wearing a motorcycle helmet approved by the Florida Department of Transportation, according to police officials. At the time, he was wearing what is called a “half-shell helmet.”

The crash is reportedly alcohol or drug related.

The investigation is ongoing.
