City resident dies after crashing motor scooter
A Cape Coral man died over the weekend from injuries he sustained in a traffic crash.
Ronald Alan Burge, 59, of 1105 S.E. Fifth Terrace, died on Sunday at the Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported after the accident on County Club Boulevard, according to officials.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Burge was driving a Bintelli motor scooter north on Country Club in the outside lane when he drifted to the right in the 3500 block and drove off the roadway. Police reported that the bottom right of the scooter struck a large rock in the grassy area, causing Burge to lose control.
The scooter turned clockwise and ejected Burge forward, causing him to strike his head on the road. It then flipped and came to rest off the edge of the roadway, while Burge came to rest partly in the road.
Lee County EMS trauma-alerted Burge to the hospital by ambulance, according to police.
At the hospital, it was determined that he had sustained a life-threatening head injury.
Police reported that at 11:59 a.m. Sunday, Burge died from his injuries.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The crash is alcohol or drug related, according to police.
