A Cape Coral police officer has been released from the hospital following an on-duty crash.

As of Tuesday, Officer Brian Dennis, 26, of the Cape Coral Police Department, had been discharged from the Cape Coral Hospital, where he was taken on Sunday after the accident, officials reported.

At 7:44 p.m., Dennis was driving a Ford Crown Victoria north on Santa Barbara Boulevard. Responding to a fatal traffic crash, he had his emergency lights and siren activated, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. As he came to Southwest 24th Street, the green traffic signal cycled to red.

A Toyota Yaris, driven by Jessica England, 38, of the Cape, entered the intersection traveling west on Southwest 24th Street. Dennis swerved left and then right, then crossed the northbound lanes of Santa Barbara. The Crown Victoria traveled over the sidewalk on the east side of the road.

The police vehicle crashed through a line of shrubs and entered a business parking, where it collided with a parked Dodge Ram.

The Crown Victoria overturned onto its roof before coming to a stop.

The FHP reported that Dennis sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

England was not injured in the accident.

At the time of the crash, Jennafer Snyder, 28, of the Cape, was sitting in the Dodge Ram’s front passenger seat. The sole occupant of the vehicle, she was not injured, according to the FHP.
