G. David Howard to return to Shell Factory Saturday night

2 min read

In the late 1970s and early 80s, G. David Howard was perhaps the funniest comedian in the area. Everywhere he went, it was standing room only.

On Saturday at 7:15 p.m., he returns for one show in the Dolphin Room at the Shell Factory in North Fort Myers.

The Dolphin Room has hosted lots of entertainment over the years, but it’s been more of the musical variety. Rick Tupper, CFO and marketing director of the Shell Factory, said it’s one more thing the company is trying to add more variety.

“We’re looking to do more shows than the Del Prados, and are looking to do comedy shows and making it more of an entertainment venue,” Tupper said. “We’ve had him here before, but this is the first time we’ve really publicized it.”

For more than 40 years, Howard has taken his “laugh until your face hurts” show to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and, mostly, throughout the western side of the state, especially in North Redington Beach, where he does a regular show and on Indian Rocks, where he has his own club.

Shell Factory owner Tom Cronin remembered seeing him perform years ago and became friends over the years, which is one of the reasons he’s coming to North Fort Myers, Tupper said.

Howard has had many accomplishments, including getting into the Guinness Book of World Records by cracking jokes non-stop for16 hours straight, which made him the “Funniest Man Alive.” He has also been a radio host and an author who has written a book, “Half of America is Nuts, and They Were Allowed to Vote.”

Howard’s humor is observational, topical and political, while speaking with people in the audience, whom he is able to remember by name, and can even make you laugh with a guitar in his hand.

Tupper said he hopes a successful show will result in yet another avenue for the Shell Factory to get quality entertainment.

“This is an opportunity to see if it works. If it does, we will work on more comedy shows in the future,” Tupper said.

Doos open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and beverages and a special dinner menu will be available.
