Updated: Cape police investigating homicide
Update:
As Cape Coral police continue their investigation into the city’s fifth homicide this year, the victim is remembered for his civic involvement.
Dayvin K. Johnson, who was shot outside his 1216 N.E. 23rd Terrace home early Monday morning, is remembered as a friend, campaign worker and “change maker,” by District 17 Congressional candidate April Freeman.
“Today my family and I mourn the loss of our dear family friend, fellow community organizer and former campaign staff member, Dayvin Johnson,” Freeman, a Democrat, said in a prepared statement issued Tuesday. “The sadness of losing a friend, is only worsened when they’ve been taken by a senseless act of violence. Dayvin Johnson was a change maker with a beautiful soul and a wonderful human being. Our community has lost a champion for change. The death of Dayvin Johnson, is something that my family, and his family are still coming to terms with. At this time I feel it is only appropriate to limit my comments to expressing our sadness, and sincerest condolences for those closest to Dayvin during this very difficult time.”
According to a CCPD incident report released Tuesday morning, Johnson ran into the northeast Cape residence around 1:20 a.m. Monday and told his mother he had been shot.
Medical personnel responded and pronounced Johnson dead at 1:37 a.m.
No additional details have been released.
