Repair work to begin at Historical Museum
By JIM LINETTE
Repairs are scheduled this week at one of the three buildings that make up the Cape Coral Historical Museum at Cultural Park.
According to city public affairs manager Connie Barron, the wood-framed structure foundation of the main building – the Rosen Building – has had some settling issues.
“It was originally set in place similar to how mobile homes are set,” Barron said. “The building foundation piers need to be strengthened and additional piers added.”
Museum Executive Director (Curator) Shalla Ashworth said the problem was detected in July when the museum normally is closed for cleaning and inventory.
“It’s a bit of an inconvenience, but it’s also a blessing that it happened now instead of in season,” said Ashworth. “It will be challenging. Just a hiccup.”
The musem is currently closed, throught the month of August, for maintenance. Up until last year, the museum was closed in both July and August.
The museum sits on city-owned property at Cultural Park and the Historical Society leases the space from the city.
“Work is to begin this week and should be completed in three to four days,” said Barron.
The cost of the repairs is estimated at $25,000.
The Cape Coral Historical Museum is at 544 Cultural Park Blvd. For more information about the museum, call 239-772-7037.
