School District working on virtual learning plan
The School District of Lee County has extended Spring Break through March 30 following a directive from the Florida Department of Education.
Schools in the district were already scheduled for Spring Break from the March 16 to March 20. This extends the physical closure of buildings until Friday, March 27, said Superintendent Greg Adkins in a letter to district families. The schools have an anticipated return of Monday, March 30.
The School District of Lee County, along with our TALC and SPALC partners, have been working on a virtual learning plan so students can continue their learning at home, Adkins stated.
The closure includes cancellation of all extra-curricular activities, sporting events and programs.
The Florida Department of Education also announced that the start of state testing will be delayed by a minimum of two weeks.
“Keeping students healthy and safe is my number one priority, and that is why we are recommending that districts follow the CDC’s guidance for Florida,” said Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran. “We are continuing to monitor COVID-19, and I encourage all Floridians to remain informed and take the necessary precautions that have been issued by the CDC.”
