Tickets on sale for Cape Coral Animal Shelter ’80s Decade Party
Do you miss the days of hair bands, leg warmers and parachute pants?
Next month, the Cape Coral Animal Shelter will host its annual Decade Party, with this year’s theme paying tribute to the ’80s.
The festivities take place at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Ballroom on March 6, from 7 to 11 p.m. and features cocktails, food, music, dancing contests, auctions and of course, dressing up in your best ’80s-themed garb.
The Decades Party theme began five years ago at Wicked Dolphin Distillery in Cape Coral, as JoAnn Elardo, founder of Wicked Dolphin, also serves at the president of the board of the animal shelter.
Now, as the years turn, the ode to decades of the past have continued — the first, being an ode to the Roaring 20s.
“The first party was a big hit and well received in the Cape Coral community,” said Pamela Aubuchon, board member of the animal shelter. “The event took off in becoming one of the Cape Coral Animal Shelter’s signature events.
“All of the events are decade costume themed to go along with the party decor and music of the celebrated decade. The event offers, food, cocktails, music, dancing, entertainment, and auctions filled with amazing gifts.”
Overall, shelter organizers are hopeful that the community comes out to support Cape Coral’s first and only no-kill animal shelter while enjoying a great event that’s sure to deliver a great atmosphere and take attendees back in time.
Riverside Band will be on hand to deliver ’80s hits live and in color.
“Riverside Band is a local and very talented band,” Aubuchon said. “They have been playing together here in Southwest Florida for several years and are very supportive of the Cape Coral Animal Shelter and our community.”
Organizers encourage everyone to dig deep into their closets and put together an ’80s-themed outfit to sport. Whether you want to be a character from The Breakfast Cub, crimp your hair, rock shoulder pads or bring back the mullet — creativity is king and makes for a good time.
“Well, who doesn’t remember the ’80s?” Aubuchon asked. “Big hair, Aqua Net, the best rock and roll hair bands and pop music, all of the fun movies of the decade — you remember, don’t deny it!”
Sponsors are still being sought for the event, Aubuchon said, and are a big part of helping the shelter provide the best resources for sheltered animals.
“Our sponsors are very important and play a viable part in the success of the Cape Coral Animal Shelter’s Signature Events,” Aubuchon said. “The more support received, the more the event provides for the shelter to be used in the care of our animal guests and those in our community, such as education and training programs.”
Aubuchon is an account executive with The Breeze.
The Cape Coral Animal Shelter is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization established in August of 2016.
Their mission is, “To engage a special bond between people and animals by means of adoption services, medical care, education and training for the prevention of cruelty and abandonment. A safe place, where animals will remain in our care until they are placed in a qualified, forever home.”
The Cape Coral Animal Shelter broke ground in late 2018 and the 6,512-square-foot facility is expected to be completed in early 2020. Liz McCauley serves as the shelter’s executive director.
Tickets for the event are $100, of $700 for a table of eight.

The Cape Coral Yacht Club Ballroom is at 5819 Driftwood Parkway.
The Cape Coral Animal Shelter is being constructed at 325 SW 2nd Ave, next to Sun Splash Family Waterpark.
