Lee County High School recreational level Unified Track Event Friday
The Second Annual Unified Track Event for Lee County High Schools set for Friday, Jan. 31, at Estero High School. The event is a joint effort between the School District of Lee County and Lee County Parks & Recreation Special Olympics Program.
Student athletes from nine high schools — Cypress Lake, Estero, Fort Myers, Ida Baker, Lehigh, North Fort Myers, Mariner, Riverdale and South Fort Myers — will participate. Special Olympics Unified Sports combines student “Athletes” with intellectual disabilities together with student “Partners,” to form Sports Teams. Events include the 4×100 and 4×200 relay, shot put and long jump.
Special Olympics’ goal is through sports training and competition to help schools build a society of acceptance and inclusion, create friendship opportunities, and have fun too!
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be presented at 11:30 by former NFL player Tommy Bohannon. Every participant from every team receives an award. The Top 3 Teams for each gender will receive Team Trophies.
