Food truck competition Saturday at JetBlue Park

Approximately 20 food trucks will make an appearance at the SWFL Food Truck Nationals event this Saturday at JetBlue Park.

RP Charities Inc. Partner Ron Maglothin said this is the first time holding the SWFL Food Truck Nationals, which they hope to make an annual thing.

“We’ve seen some other organizations do it and it didn’t turn out so good,” he said, adding that they decided to implement some of their knowledge of doing large car shows and put a food truck challenge together. “We are thinking if we get the public behind it, it should be a good turnout.”

The beneficiary of the event is Keep Lee County Beautiful.

RP Charities began doing car shows 17 years ago, he said, becoming the largest car show in Southwest Florida featuring 300 to 500 cars a show with more than 3,000 spectators.

The food truck competition will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at JetBlue Park, 11500 Fenway South Dr., Fort Myers.

“I have about 20 food trucks. The best food trucks in the area are coming,” Maglothin said.

Admission is $5 and free for active military and children 12 years old and younger. Parking is free.

There will be additional fees for whatever the food vendors charge for their food. The food trucks vary from lobster, hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos and burritos, subs, vegan, barbecue, pizza, Italian ice and bistro.

“The spectators will be voting on their favorite food trucks. We are giving away some custom handmade trophies and cash rewards for third, second and first place,” Maglothin said.

The event will also feature a DJ and live band. There are picnic tables with umbrellas for attendees to sit and enjoy their food.
