Cape man who threatened multiple victims with a gun sentenced to prison
Today Bryan Alfonso, 30, was sentenced to eight years in prison for each of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and eight years in prison for one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon actual possession.
According to the announcement by the State Attorney’s Office, the defendant was sentenced as a habitual felony offender, filed by the prosecutor, so his prison sentence is over the statutory maximum. He will serve his sentences concurrently.
Alfonso’s address is listed as 1321 Andalusia Blvd., in Cape Coral, on the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s latest arrest report. At the time of his arrest on the aggravated assault charges, his residence was listed as 1423 N.E. 17th Terrace in Cape Coral.
In December 2018, three days before Christmas, the defendant committed multiple crimes by threatening people with a firearm throughout Cape Coral, the State Attorney’s Office said. First, he went to a liquor store on Del Prado Boulevard and flashed a gun at a customer sitting in his car, threatening the customer with the firearm. The defendant then drove away and the victim followed him for a short distance in his car, calling police to give them the license plate number.
Alfonso then went to a nearby gas station and threatened two victims in the parking lot with the firearm before he drove around to the back of the store and parked his vehicle, the report states. He then flashed the gun at another victim who was in his car waiting for his wife to come out of the store. In fear that the store was about to be robbed, the man began driving around the store trying to get in touch with his wife to have her leave. The victims called 911. Alfonso drove away, onto Pine Island Road.
Soon after, Alfonso, while driving, pointed his gun at a man with his two young sons in the car who had turned onto the same road at the same time. The defendant started yelling obscenities and screaming at them. The driver called 911 and stayed a good distance back, relaying where the defendant was going.
Alfonso ended up at another liquor store, near Andalusia Boulevard and Diplomat Parkway, and showed the clerk the firearm that was in his waistband. He purchased a 6-pack of beer and went out into the parking lot but noticed Cape Coral Police on scene, surrounding the intersection. He ran back inside the store and hid his gun. He then came outside and laid on the ground in front of the officers. They later found his gun hidden in the ceiling of the men’s bathroom after seeing a ceiling tile ajar.
Assistant State Attorney Christine Cummins handled this multi-layered case.
