An accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck Saturday resulted in the death of two Lee County residents.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Adam Lee Herring, 26, of Cape Coral, and Rosalba Cortes Lorenzo, 46, of Fort Myers, both died as a result of the crash, which occurred at 12:15 p.m. on U.S. 41 just north of Michael G. Rippe Parkway.

The FHP report indicates that Herring was driving a 2008 Suzuki GSX north in the center lane of U.S. 41 at a high rate of speed when a 2003 Ford F150, driven by Lorenzo Mendoza Pardo, 41, of Fort Myers, attempted to turn left from southbound U.S. 41 to the east side of the highway. The pickup traveled into the path of the motorcycle, officers said, and the front of the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the truck.

Herring was pronounced dead at the scene. Lorenzo, a passenger in the pickup, was later pronounced deceased at Lee Memorial Hospital.

According to the FHP, the accident remains under investigation, and was not alcohol-related.
