Cape Coral to receive $5.6 million for Hurricane Irma recovery efforts
The city of Cape Coral has been awarded a $5.6 million FEMA grant to help offset cleanup costs incurred in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
The money is part of a $13 million disbursement to Lee County communities announced Thursday.
In addition to the $5,632,525 Cape Coral grant, the city of Fort Myers has been awarded $4,266,803 for Hurricane Irma recovery. The city of Bonita Springs will receive $3,058,364.
“Our local communities are on the front lines of hurricane recovery, and are the first to step for debris removal which can cost millions of dollars,” said Congressman Francis Rooney in a prepared statement. “These grants reimburse the cities for those expenses and are vital to making sure our cities recover financially from these natural disasters. I thank FEMA for providing our communities much needed relief for their Hurricane Irma cleanup efforts, and for the great job our cities did to get back up and running.”
