Community Pool in North Fort Myers to remain closed for maintenance
The North Fort Myers Community Pool will remain closed for maintenance and repairs until further notice, Lee County Parks & Rec officials said this week, adding that those disappointed by the news do have other options this summer.
Swim lessons and water aerobics classes will be offered at the North Fort Myers High School pool while school is out of session for summer break. The pool is just two blocks south of the community pool at 960 Iris Drive.
“We are fortunate to have a great, longstanding relationship with the Lee County School Board which allows us to open the pool for community use,” said Alise Flanjack, deputy director of Lee County Parks & Recreation, in an e-mail.
During summer break, from June 9 to Aug. 4, the pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5:45 p.m.
Water aerobics will be performed at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, and swim lessons will happen in one-hour blocks at 8, 9, and 10 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Summer camp at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center will use the pool at least once a week.
North Fort Myers is home to one of four community pools in Lee County. The others are in Lehigh Acres, San Carlos and Pine Island.
The pool, which has served the area for nearly 60 years, closed in March. Betsy Clayton, Lee County communications director, said the closure stemmed from mechanical and structural issues that affect pool operations and require contracting services from an engineer to resolve them.
