Vehicle found; Child and ‘person of interest’ still missing
The tan Chevy Malibu from the Diana Alvarez Amber Alert has been found but neither missing Fort Myers 9-year-old nor the man police want to question in her disappearance have been located.
Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies agencies ask the public to remain vigilant as the search now entering its sixth day continues. Anyone who spots either Diana or Jorge Guerrero, 28, is asked to immediately call 911 or the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
To protect the investigation, officials are not saying where the vehicle Guerrero is believed to have been driving was found.
“At the moment we are not commenting on where the recovery took place as efforts are still underway,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a prepared statement. “A large gathering of media would give away Law Enforcement’s presence in the area diligently trying to discover where Diana and Guerrero are.”
It is possible that the man and child remain on the move and so police are asking everyone to keep watch, another reason investigators don’t want the public to concentrate on the area where the vehicle was found, officials said.
Guerrero is described as a white/Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes, 5-foot 5 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds. He has ties to the Orange County and Okeechobee County areas.
Diana, who is Hispanic, is 4’4″, 95 pounds, with dark hair and brown eyes. She has two scars on one of her legs. She was last seen wearing a shirt, blue bottoms, shoes, and may be carrying a green blanket with flower print.
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigations have increased the reward for information concerning the child and her whereabouts to $6,000. $1,000 is being provided by Crime Stoppers, with the additional $5,000 pledged by the FBI.
