Police identify woman who died in gun-related incident

Cape Coral Police have released the name of the person who died from a gunshot wound at her southeast Cape Coral home Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased is identified as Victoria Brown, 58 of 2933 S.E. 8 Place, according to a release issued by the Cape Coral Police Department this morning.

Detectives investigating the incident had detained and questioned her husband, Vernon Brown, Jr., 58, of the same address.

“At the conclusion of the questioning, Mr. Brown left with other family members,” the release states.

Cape Coral Police detectives have obtained a search warrant for the residence and were in the process of serving it as of 9:30 this morning.

The investigation is ongoing, officials said, adding additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Police previously called the shooting, which was reported at 4:40 p.m., an “isolated incident.”

“There is no danger to the public at large,” said CCPD spokesperson Dana Coston at the shooting scene Wednesday. “This is an isolated incident involving parties at a residence.”

Police are investigating a shooting death that happened in southeast Cape Coral Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responding to the 4:30 p.m. call found one person dead at a residence in the 2900 block of Southeast 8th Place.

One person was being questioned at Cape Coral Police Department Headquarters as of 5:30 p.m, officials said, adding the shooting was an “isolated incident.”

“There is no danger to the public at large,” said CCPD spokesperson Dana Coston at the shooting scene. “This is an isolated incident involving parties at a residence.”

No other details, including the identity of the deceased, the identify of the person being questioned or whether the shooting took place inside or outside the home was immediately available.

Police also could not say if the person being questioned was the suspected shooter.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available, Coston said.
