House demolition makes way for M/PIFCD Fire Station #4
Last week, Honc Industries began clearing the land at 11971 Pompano Ave., Cape Coral, for Fire Station #4 for the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District.
“This is an exciting day because we are moving ahead,” Acting Fire Chief Ben Mickuleit said. “It’s been a long time coming and I’m glad we are finally making progress.”
The house at the Pompano Avenue address was built in 1957 and was beyond repair when the property was sold, officials said. Honc started tearing down the building about 8 a.m. and by 5 p.m. it was completely down and loaded into giant Dumpsters.
The property, off of Pine Island Road and close to Burnt Store Road, is roughly 1.5 acres.
“This is the perfect property for the fire house,” Mickuleit said. “Hopefully we’ll get started on the building soon.”
According to its website, the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District protects approximately 45 square miles and includes the geographical areas of Bokeelia, Pineland, Pine Island Center, St. James City, Matlacha, Matlacha Isles and Cape Royal.
