Two conservation proposals on Monday’s council agenda

1 min read

Three public hearings are listed on the agenda for Monday’s City Council meeting at City Hall.

One deals with selling surplus city property at 2605 Santa Barbara Boulevard not presently used for municipal purposes and not projected to be needed by the city in the forseeable future.

Another amends the city’s ordinance by establishing a manatee protection area in the northeast Cape. Manatees are frequently sighted in the north spreader canal and adjoining canals and waterways. The amendment seeks to regulate motorboat speed and operation to protect the endangered species from harmful collisions with boats.

The third hearing is a resolution urging the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to reinstate the prohibition of bear hunting throughout the state and focus more attention on removing conflicts between bears and residents through deterrent techniques.

Monday’s meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
