Cape man hurt in crash released from Lee Memorial
A Cape Coral driver has been released from the hospital after driving into a palm tree.
As of Tuesday, William R. Edwards, 35, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported following the accident near U.S. 41 and Palm Drive, according to officials.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Edwards was driving an Acura ILX northbound on U.S. 41 on April 2 at 1:45 p.m. For unknown reasons, the Acura traveled in a northwesterly direction just south of Palm Drive and the front left section of the vehicle collided with plants located in the median of the road.
The vehicle then traveled in a northeasterly direction, crossing all of the northbound lanes of U.S. 41. It exited the road on the right shoulder where the right middle section of the Acura struck the palm tree. The top of the palm tree fell off, and the vehicle came to a final stop in a landscaped area near the road.
The accident is not alcohol related, according to the FHP.
