Peace, Love and Paws: ‘Woofstock’ to benefit planned no-kill shelter
Tickets are on sale for a 1970s tribute concert to benefit Cape Coral’s first no-kill shelter.
Hosted by the Gulf Coast Humane Society and the Dixie Roadhouse, Woofstock: Peace, Love and Paws will take place on Friday from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Dixie. The event will showcase two headliner acts – Dancing Dream, an ABBA tribute band, and a Donna Summer tribute with Rainere Martin.
“We loved the idea of a ’70s-themed event,” Jennifer Galloway, executive director of the Gulf Coast Humane Society, said. “We’re telling everyone to get those bellbottoms and tie-dyed shirts out.”
Martin will take the stage at about 8 p.m., followed by Dancing Dream at about 9:15 p.m.
“We’ve done some other things to raise funds for the expansion into Cape Coral,” she said, noting that the Wicked Dolphin Rum Distillery recently held its Decades Party to raise funds for the shelter.
“This is the first time we’ve partnered with Dixie,” Galloway said.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door; children under 12 are free.
The outdoor festival will also feature food, street vendors, raffles and door prizes.
“There’s going to be about 20 vendors,” she said.
There will be pet products, as well as handmade crafts, local businesses and food trucks.
“It’s a good mix,” Galloway said. “It’s not just pet-related.”
There will be event T-shirts for sale, with the proceeds also going to the shelter.
It is open to all ages.
“It’s a family-fun event,” she said.
Organizers are hoping to raise about $20,000 at the concert.
“We’re expecting about 3,000,” Galloway said. “We’re hoping to make this an annual event.”
People are not permitted to bring chairs or blankets, coolers or pets.
