Technical College to hold open house
Those thinking about starting a career, or choosing a new career, have a unique opportunity to do so on Saturday when the Cape Coral Technical College holds an open house to raise awareness in the community and enroll new students.
The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the college campus, 360 Santa Barbara Boulevard North. It’s the first time in 18 years the school has held an open house on a Saturday. Staff, faculty, students and recent graduates in all of its 18 or so programs in the fields of business, health, hospitality and technology will be available to answer questions from the career requirements to financial aid.
“For anyone who signs up at the open house we will waive the application fee and possibly the testing fee for a savings of $30 to $45,” said college director Brian Mangan. “Our programs are fast paced, low cost and proven successful. This is not the usual time of year someone thinks of enrolling, but why wait another six months if they can get started now and be done in a year or less?”
The school, which opened its doors in 1993, offers career choices for those coming out of high school, or adults starting or changing careers because of layoffs and other reasons, or someone who finds a job and needs some form of training or certification. The typical age of the student population ranges from 18-34.
In addition to investigating career programs and financing with a guided tour, attendees can experience a hot rod car and bike show, refreshments, barbecue, hot dogs, popcorn, a bounce house and face painting for kids, music and a live remote broadcast by radio station BEAT 105.5.
Visitors can take advantage of several free health screenings, mini facials, manicures and other services given by students and staff as well as register for several prize giveaways.
“We wanted to do something different to raise our profile in the community,” said Mangan. “We usually have an open house in August when students normally come to enroll. We’ve invited the car clubs to help attract attention.
I’m not really sure what to expect as far as attendance or even hazard a guess.”
The school, part of the Lee County Public Schools adult and career education, typically graduates about 250 students over all of its programs each year. The disciplines include accounting, business management, computer and information technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, digital design, electronic technology, medical administration, medical coding and billing, nails specialty, network support, nursing assistant, pharmacy technician, practical nursing, surgical tech, web application and development programming.
