Participants sought for Break the Record motorcycle ride
An upcoming motorcycle ride aims to break a world record and raise funds for a great cause.
Break the Record will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m., at the Germain Arena in Estero, with registration opening at 8 a.m. Teaming up with Fort Myers resident Adam Sandoval and his chihuahua, Scooter, the participants will travel to Six Bends Harley-Davidson in Fort Myers with the goal of making history.
In the “Guinness World Records” book, the standing record for the “Largest Parade of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles” is 2,404 Harley-Davidsons in a row. Greece currently holds that.
“We are hoping for 2,405 Harley-Davidsons,” Robin Waldon of Six Bends Harley-Davidson said.
The proceeds will benefit The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund and the Scootin’ America campaign, which entails Sandoval and Scooter riding to raise money and awareness for the fund.
“The foundation helps children of fallen soldiers go to college,” she said.
The entry fee is $10 for riders and $5 for passengers, with breakfast provided.
Waldon explained that any type of motorcycle can take part. Because of the world record aspect, however, the Harley-Davidsons will ride together at the front of the group, with the rest in the rear.
All participants will receive a pin, with Harley-Davidson riders getting numbered ones.
In conjunction with the ride, the Food and Brew Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Six Bends Harley-Davidson. Ride participants receive wristbands for free access into the festival.
“We are going to have beer tents,” she said, adding that there will be domestic and craft selections.
Up to 20 food vendors, comprised of local restaurants and food trucks, will also be on site.
“There will be other merchandise vendors, as well,” Waldon said.
Live entertainment will be provided by the band Torched from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by 24 Carat from 3 to 6 p.m. She explained that both groups typically perform classic rock and country music.
“Both of them are actually local,” Waldon said.
Admission is $15 and includes two beer tickets; children ages 12 and under are free.
Free parking will be available on site.
“All of those proceeds go to the Legacy Scholarship Fund, as well,” she said.
Prior to Saturday, a pre-party Bike Night will be held on Jan. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Six Bends. Registration for the ride will be open, and the local band “Electric Lipstick” will perform.
“They play a little bit of everything,” Waldon said.
There will be food, merchandise vendors and a burnout pit.
Admission and parking are free.
