1 min read

A pedestrian died last week after walking into the path of a Cape Coral man’s motorcycle.

On Thursday, Emilio Arteage, 47, of the Cape, was headed north on North Tamiami Trail on a Suzuki VL800, approaching Cabana Avenue. At the same time, Luke Galasso, 55, of Fort Myers, was standing on the west shoulder of North Tamiami Trail, trying to cross the road onto the east shoulder.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that at 6:59 p.m., Galasso started to cross North Tamiami Trail and walked into the path of the motorcycle. The front left side of the Suzuki collided with Galasso.

The motorcycle came to a final rest on its left side in the center lane of North Tamiami Trail.

Galasso was pronounced dead on scene, according to the FHP.

Arteage was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.

As of Tuesday, he had been treated and released.
