LifeWalk: Annual event to benefit Lifeline Family Center

3 min read

Time is running out to register in advance for the 5th Annual LifeWalk set for early December. Organized by the Lifeline Family Center, the event will take place on Dec. 5 at Jaycee Park, with a continental breakfast and day of registration open at 7:45 a.m. The walk will begin at 8:45 a.m.

“It’s to raise support for the moms and babies who live here,” Executive Director Kathy Miller said.

The Lifeline Family Center offers a positive alternative to abortion by giving women, ages 16 to 22 in unplanned pregnancies, hope for the future by providing a safe home for the first couple of years.

“We provide all their material needs and counseling, and guide them to career counseling,” she said, adding that those without GEDs work toward earning one. “It’s a total comprehensive program.”

Proceeds raised from the event fund the center’s programs for the mothers and their babies.

Last year, over $28,000 was raised and more than 400 people signed up to take part.

“We walk around the park three times,” Miller said.

She noted that the mothers and babies will be on hand, as well as program graduates.

“We’re celebrating the life of these children and the moms who have chosen to make positive changes in their lives,” Miller said.

People can register as individuals, as a team, with their church or as part of a youth group.

There is no cost to sign up.

“They’re going to get people to sponsor them for walking. We want them to fund raise,” she said. “We’ve actually had people register their dogs, and their dogs got sponsors.”

Those who register in advance by Monday will get an event T-shirt.

During the walk, a children’s scavenger hunt will be held.

“It’s to make it a little bit more conducive to families,” Miller said.

The winner will receive a prize.

The biggest fund-raisers will also be recognized. The top individual and the top team will each take home a gift card, while the top church will earn a trophy. A pizza party will go to the top youth group.

“We have like 39 churches that are involved with this,” she said.

Other activities will include face painting and balloon art.

The band Interface, of the Florida School of Discipleship, will provide live entertainment.

“They’re going to perform the whole time,” Miller said.

As of Thursday, the Lifeline Family Center was still accepting sponsorships.
