Friends of the Cape Coral Library to hold annual sale
Thousands of items will be available for quarters at the Fall Book Sale set for next week. Hosted by the Friends of the Cape Coral Library, the annual event will kick off with a members only preview on Thursday from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Cape Coral Lee County Public Library. Non-members can enjoy the early pickings by joining the Friends of the Cape Coral Library at the door for just $15.
The sale will continue on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We’ve been doing them for years,” Crystal Revak, with the Friends of the Cape Coral Library, said about the events, held in the fall and the spring. “This is our biggest one that we’ve ever had.”
This year’s Fall Book Sale will feature more than 10,000 books priced at $2 and under.
“The highest you’re going to pay is $2,” she said.
There will be a large selection of history, cooking, fiction, home and garden, and craft books.
“This year, we have some interesting things that we don’t normally have,” Revak said.
Children’s, art and music books will be on hand, as well as classic sheet music.
“Some people collect that sort of thing,” she said.
The Friends of the Cape Coral Library will also offer discounts on items it normally has for sale at the library to raise funds throughout the year. Tote bags will only be $2, and calendars are marked at $5.
“They make good Christmas gifts for people who love to read,” Revak said.
Annually, approximately $20,000 is raised through the seasonal sales.
The funds enable the Friends of the Cape Coral Library to continue its support of the library. For example, the large meeting room had a major upgrade last year to its audio-visual equipment.
“That’s why we hold the book sales,” she said. “To support the library.”
In addition to improvements at the library, the funds help provide a variety of special programs for all age groups. It pays for the magicians, jugglers and puppet programs at the Summer Reading events.
“We have a lot of different programs that go on,” Revak said. The funds provide refreshments and prizes for the Earth Day coloring contest, Chess Club, English Cafe and more. It also helps with organizing the art galley and maintaining the butterfly garden.
“We provide things that are specific to Cape Coral. We know our community,” she said.
“We really have a passion for this library and what it provides,” Revak added.
