A serious crash on Wednesday put two drivers in the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

Cape Coral police reported that Terrey Albert Gavazzi, 73, of the Cape, was traveling westbound on Hancock Bridge Parkway in the outside lane in a Chevrolet Trailblazer. At 12:03 p.m., he lost control of the SUV in the 2000 block and entered into a counterclockwise spin, crossing past the inside lane.

The Chevy hit the concrete median, crossed it and entered the eastbound lanes of Hancock.

According to police, the SUV then crossed the left turn lane and the inside lane. As it entered the outside lane, the front end of the Chevy struck the front left side and the driver’s door of an eastbound Saturn S-Series. The car was being driven by Alexandra Nicole Konikow, 21, also from the Cape.

The impact caused caused the Saturn to travel south, coming to a final rest in the grass between the road and the sidewalk. The SUV also traveled south and came to a final rest in the grassy area.

Both lanes of Hancock were closed for about four hours.

Gavazzi was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital with minor injuries.

Officials reported that he had been discharged as of Thursday.

Konikow was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

As of Thursday, she was listed in critical condition.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
