Proposed RV resort utility proposal on council agenda
Three public hearings are scheduled at Monday’s regular City Council meeting at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
The short regular meeting will be followed by a lengthier special meeting called to approve the final ad valorem millage tax rate and adopt the city’s Fiscal Year 2016 operating budget.
Two of the public hearings deal with small excess city parcels deemed as unusable by the city to be deeded over to private ownership.
The third hearing will approve the changing of the Fire/Rescue and Emergency Management Services Department to simply Fire Department. The change returns the department to its original name prior to 1997.
The action does not minimize the role of Emergency Management. The Fire Department has created a division within the department to address the roles and responsibilities of an all hazards approach to Emergency Management.
The only financial impact of the change is minimal, confined to the printing of stationary, business cards and contract language.
A separate resolution will be discussed by council associated with the proposed Planned Development Project known as The RV Resort at Tranquility Lake just approved by Planning & Zoning this week. That project is expected to be before council for approval at its regular meeting on Oct. 5.
Monday’s discussion concerns negotiating an interlocal agreement with Charlotte County for utility services extension for the Tranquility Lake RV resort.
The project proposes an RV park on a 188-acre parcel in northwest Cape Coral. The city does not currently have facilities for water, wastewater and irrigation near the proposed site. The developers are requesting to be connected to facilities owned by Charlotte County within one mile of the project site.
The developer will be required to design, construct and install all utilities necessary to connect to Charlotte County lines at the developer’s expense. When Cape Coral utility services are available in the future, the developer shall connect at that time as specified by City Ordinance.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28.
