North Fort Myers Chamber begins search for marketing director
It’s been seven months since the executive director at the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce resigned, with the board of directors still considering its options.
One of those is the filling of a different position.
Chamber president Al Giacalone said the board last week decided to hire a marketing director who will be responsible for attracting and retaining members as well as promoting and assisting with special events.
The job opening will be put out this week in the Chamber newsletter as well as on Craig’s List and the chamber is now accepting resumes.
Giacalone said the board of directors took its time before deciding direction.
“We needed to make sure when we hired someone we knew what for and that we could compensate them adequately,” Giacalone said.
At its board of directors meeting last Tuesday, the board decided on a job description and what the chamber could offer as compensation. Giacalone said they are not looking for a full-time position yet, just someone who could help attract and retain members and promote events such as the Taste of North Fort Myers.
As far as an executive director, Giacalone said they are still looking for one, but that person probably won’t be hired until late this year or early next year.
Chris Jackson submitted his resignation on Jan. 20 as executive director, citing the fact his wife, a pastor, is moving to South Dakota to lead a church in Sioux Falls and his desire to start a new website building company.
The chamber is seeking an enthusiastic, organized person who is adept at public speaking, has some computer knowledge and be able to promote the chamber via Internet.
This is a part-time position.
