Cape to consider formal support for C-43 Basin Storage Reservoir
Cape Coral City Council will vote on one new ordinance and two resolutions at Next Monday’s regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, according to the agenda posted on the city’s website.
The ordinance (25-14) declares a triangular-shaped piece of property on the Eternity Canal right-of-way as unusable surplus municipal property and conveys the deed to S&J Development LLC after S&J constructs a seawall upon the property located at 2103 S.W. 52nd Street.
The city recently has disposed of several similar parcels generally associated with the city’s construction of canal overpasses.
One resolution deals with adopting amended Affordable Housing Program Short Sale policies and procedures.
A second resolution urges Florida’s Governor to make the protection and restoration of the Southwest Florida coast, in particular the C-43 Basin Storage Reservoir in the Caloosahatchee River Basin, the highest priority for the use of RESTORE Act Funds.
The construction of the C-43 Basin Storage Reservoir will help manage and clean water flowing from the the Caloosahatchee basin and Lake Okeechobee by reducing harmful high releases from Lake O during the rainy season and provide needed base flows during the dry season to meet minimum flows and levels necessary for estuary health.
Council also will hear a presentation by the Department of Community Development on proposed changes to the city’s Land Use & Development Regulations. These changes are intended to provide an executive summary and overview of upcoming changes to be considered by City Council.
The changes modernize the regulations, eliminate conflicts that currently exist, modify procedures and provide an economic development incentive by adding opportunities for administrative review and approval.
