Municipal charter school superintendent resigns

The city of Cape Coral’s Charter School superintendent Dr. Angela Pruitt submitted her resignation to the school’s governing board to return to the Lee County School District system.

Pruitt accepted a position as Human Resources executive director.

“The opportunity at the district allows me the opportunity to work in the specialized field in which I received my doctoral degree,” Pruitt wrote in an email to Cape Coral City Council members. “It is with sadness that I leave a role where I have only been a short time with such a fantastic and supportive team. I really enjoyed my time in this role.”

Pruitt informed the charter school governing board last Friday before leaving on a scheduled vacation.

“My only comment is that I will miss her,” said City Council member Rick Williams. “I think she took a very good opportunity for her. I am very happy for her and happy that I got to work with her.”

Williams was aware of the resignation before Monday night’s council meeting, but is not sure why the subject was not at least mentioned during the meeting.

The city-run charter school system has four schools – Oasis Elementary, Christa McAuliffe Elementary, Oasis Middle and Oasis High School.

The schools are public schools and open to the children of city residents.
