Military icon Oliver North to visit Southwest Florida
Charismatic military icon Lt. Col. Oliver North will be in Southwest Florida on Thursday, June 19, for a book signing event at the Books-A-Million Forum Shop location, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. He will be autographing his current best seller “Counterfeit Lies,” along with his other works.
There to greet him will be a big bus, a traveling military memorial, and officials from the Southwest Florida Military Museum & Library from Cape Coral.
“We are the largest military museum in all of Southwest Florida,” said founder and president Ralph Santillo. “We would be proud to be associated with Oliver North in any way. We are aware of his honorable service, especially in the Vietnam conflict.”
Santillo wants to collaborate with North on military artifacts, and is looking forward to the event.
Prominent area Republicans are also expected to attend.
The book store has recently received kudos from local readers, with book signings including Dr. Ben Carson that brought hundreds to the store.
“In the last few months, we’ve had our fair share of Republican/conservative authors, politicians, and figureheads; Oliver North is next on our list,” said Matthew Seifert, assistant general manager, Books-A-Million at the Forum. “On behalf of my management and staff, we are more than excited to welcome him into our store. As an inspiration to many, I can’t express how excited I am to meet Col. North. It’s going to be a fun, exciting, and busy day!”

Oliver North is a combat decorated U.S. Marine, a No. 1 best-selling author, an inventor and a syndicated columnist.
His awards for service in combat include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for valor and two Purple Hearts for wounds in action.

Assigned to the National Security Council staff in the Reagan administration, Lt. Col. North was the United States government’s counter-terrorism coordinator from 1983-1986. He was involved in planning the rescue of 804 medical students on the island of Grenada and played a major role in the capture of terrorists who hijacked the cruise ship Achille Lauro. After helping plan the U.S. raid on Muammar Qaddafi’s terror bases in Libya, North was targeted for assassination by Abu Nidal, the infamous terrorist killed in Baghdad in August, 2002. President Ronald Reagan described North as “an American hero.”
North has authored 13 books, all of them New York Times best sellers.
