Aquatics Festival Saturday

3 min read

For more than two decades, the Annual Aquatics Festival has offered up watery fun for all ages.

The event, which is celebrating its 23rd year, will take place Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cape Coral Yacht Club pool. Hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the festival will feature activities and games. Prizes will be awarded, while food and drinks will be available for purchase.

“It’s a fun event, where families can enjoy a night of games and family bonding,” Stevens Zuniga, aquatics manager at the yacht club, said. “It’s also to have people come and learn about the facilities.”

Activities, like face painting, and arts and crafts projects will be set up around the pool deck.

“We’ll have water games,” he said.

Some of the games include a noodle race, kickboard race, Ping Pong dive, coin dive and more. There may also be an egg race for attendees to take part in.

“We try to mix up the games, so we’ll probably have different games from last year,” Zuniga said.

Prizes, such as candy and toys, will be handed out to the winners.

“Also, we’ll probably give out pool passes,” he said.

Last year, approximately 40 to 50 people showed up for the festival.

“At least we could have 50 people or more to make it real fun for everyone,” Zuniga said of the attendance goal this year.

“It also depends on the weather,” he said. “Hopefully, it doesn’t rain.”

There is no cost to attend the festival, but the pool’s daily fees will apply. The daily fee for adults age 18 and older is $3.50 per person, children ages 10 to 17 are $3, and youth ages 9 and under are $2.

Zuniga urged residents and families to come out to the event.

“It’s for all ages,” he said.

Today, the Yacht Club will host the World’s Largest Swim Lesson at 11 a.m. at the pool.

According to officials, the world’s top organizations are joining forces to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning. The facility is joining water parks, pools and other aquatic facilities around the globe to try and break a Guinness World Record.

The World’s Largest Swim Lesson is a simultaneous event.

There is no fee to participate and the pool’s daily fees will not apply.

The Cape Coral Yacht Club pool is at 5819 Driftwood Parkway.
