Sheriff Scott will be honored as Elected Official of the Year for SW Florida March 13
It is with great pleasure that we announce that Sheriff Mike Scott has been nominated and awarded the 2013 Elected Official of the Year for Southwest Florida, by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Florida Chapter, Southwest Florida Unit.
Sheriff Scott has worked hard to implement many different programs in Lee County that assist every walk of life. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office developed a close relationship with the Dubin Alzheimer’s Center to develop the Lee Elder Abuse Prevention Partnership, which is a coalition among Lee County human service providers and agencies created to promote awareness of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Sheriff Scott is not only concerned with our elderly population, but our young population as well. Sheriff Scott started the Teen Driver Challenge, a free 12-hour course designed to reduce the number of teen deaths due to car crashes. The Public Services deputies have been instrumental in educating and improving the driving behaviors of 302 teenagers who have successfully completed the program so far.
Other programs that Sheriff Scott has implemented are as follows: C.A.S.E. (Communities Against Senior Exploitation); fraud hotline; Project Lifesaver; Do The Right Thing; CarFit and Seniors Driving Safely.
Sheriff Scott will be honored at a celebration on Wednesday, March 13 at the Crown Plaza at Bell Tower.
