Lee Memorial Health System Foundation raised more than $329,000 during Radiothon
Lee Memorial Health System Foundation today announced that more than $329,000 was raised and 98 Guardian Angels (gift of $300 or $25/month for 12 months) registered at its 11th Annual “Helping Kids with Cancer” Radiothon, held Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at Miromar Outlets in Estero.
Proceeds from the 12-hour Radiothon, which allowed patients and their families to share their stories over the airwaves, will support Barbara’s Friends–Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund. Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Program is supported by the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation through Barbara’s Friends. Barbara’s Friends is an endowed children’s cancer fund that supports the pediatric oncology and hematology programs and family-centered services not reimbursed by public or private health insurance.
“We are incredibly grateful for the community’s support of our pediatric patients. The success of this year’s Radiothon allows the doctors and nurses at Golisano Children’s Hospital to continue providing the best in medical care to children battling cancer or a blood disorder right here in Southwest Florida,” said Lee Memorial Health System Chief Foundation Officer Sharon MacDonald.
Major sponsors of the event included Presenting Sponsor Mel’s Diner and Cat Country 107.1FM, Clear Channel, Miromar Outlets, Dunkin’ Donuts, News-Press, Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation, Enterprise Holdings, Texas Roadhouse, Century Link, Private Client Services, Aubuchon Team of Companies, Florida Everblades/Germain Arena and St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church; and thanks to the many volunteers who helped answer the phones.
The event totals include proceeds from Rumrunners Celebrity Chef Night, held each August as a kick-off to the “Cat Country 107.1 Helping Kids with Cancer” Radiothon.
