United Way campaign kick-off Tuesday morning
The United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades will officially kick off the 2012-2013 community-wide fund-raising campaign Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 a.m., at the Harborside Event Center, downtown Fort Myers. United Way Campaign chair and vice president of Enterprise Holdings, Robert Wilson, will lead the event which will include a campaign overview and the announcement of this year’s Pacesetter results. Pacesetter companies run their employee campaigns prior to the official kick-off to demonstrate their United Way support and encourage others to follow their leadership.
The 2012-2013 campaign goal is $8,060,193. Last year the United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades surpassed its campaign goal.
All money raised in the United Way campaign stays in the local community to help support the local human service network of partner agencies. United Way partner agencies such as Harry Chapin Food Bank, CCMI, Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center, Children’s Advocacy Center, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Lee Mental Health serve a diverse range of needs in our community. The United Way advances the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for everyone in our community, focusing on education, income and health, as they are the building blacks for a better quality of life.
In addition to raising funds for 70 human service organizations in our community, the United Way promotes partnerships and collaborations among agencies, helping them to work together focusing on issues and solutions that continue to improve lives. The theme for this year’s campaign is “LIVE UNITED” and emphasizes the spirit of giving, advocating and volunteering. The United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades was established in 1957.
