School district is monitoring Tropical Storm Isaac

Lee County Public Schools is monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Isaac. District staff is in close communication with Lee County Emergency Operations officials as well meteorologists as the storm churns toward our area.

Administrators across the District have started their preliminary preparations in anticipation of the weather changing due to the storm. Each school has an emergency plan as does the District and those plans are starting to be implemented. Some of the preliminary steps include:

Securing any on-site construction projects are properly secured;

Removing all loose debris;

Secure or remove lumber, materials or athletic equipment;

All exterior garbage cans are pulled inside;

Any loose items that could become flying debris pulled inside;

Updating phone tree plans in the event notifications need to go to staff.

As of Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, all District operations and activities are taking place as scheduled. As the storm gets closer to our area, it may have a direct effect on the District’s operations and any such impact will be communicated with the community via the media and other communication vehicles as appropriate.

The goal now is to start planning in the event full implementation of our emergency procedures is necessary. We encourage parents to continue to monitor all local media outlets (online, on the air and in print) as well as the District’s Internet Web site (www.leeschools.net) over the next few days as Tropical Storm Isaac continues is trek toward the Southwest Florida area.
