A 70-year-old Cape Coral man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 12 on several occasions, as well as one of her friends once.

Robert Edgar Seesholtz of 1821 N.W. 20th Terrace was arrested and charged Tuesday with sexual assault by 18 years of age or older sexual battery victim under 12 years of age, according to jail booking records.

As of Thursday, no bond had been set and he remained in custody.

Seesholtz invited the victim’s family over to his home to swim Sunday. He swam in the pool with the victim and her friend, an arrest report states.

Later that evening, the family received a call from the mother of their daughter’s friend. She stated that her daughter was crying, claiming that Seesholtz had touched her “inappropriately” while they were in his pool.

She added that their daughter had confided in hers, telling her friend that he had been touching her for a long time, then swore her daughter to secrecy.

The parents spoke to their daughter. According to the report, the girl stated that Seesholtz had touched inappropriately Sunday and many other times.

The parents decided to confront Seesholtz at his home. During the conversation, he reportedly showed no emotion, and he allegedly denied touching one girl, but admitted to touching the other and apologized.

The parents left and contacted police.

During an interview with authorities, the alleged victim said Seesholtz had sexually battered her on many occasions, with most occurring in his pool. She “explicitly detailed, visually and verbally,” how Seesholtz would assault her.

Police attempted to speak with Seesholtz at his residence. He gave them a business card for an attorney he had retained, according to the report.

Officials requested via his attorney that Seesholtz turn himself, which he did Tuesday. He was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail.

Seesholtz has a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 9.

On Thursday, a woman who identified herself as Seesholtz’s wife over the telephone declined to comment on the allegations against Seesholtz.
