Motorcyclist still critical
The Fort Myers Police Department is continuing to investigate a Sunday traffic crash that involved a motorcyclist and a Cape Coral driver.
At 2:01 p.m., officers responded to an accident in the 4800 block of Cleveland Avenue that involved a 1995 Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle, which had been traveling northbound on Cleveland prior to the accident.
The Toyota, driven by Candace Cohowcz, 27, of 3721 S.W. 12th Ave., had been traveling southbound. According to police, Cohowcz tried to make a left hand turn, crossing the northbound lanes and colliding into the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, Jamie Hughery, 32, of Fort Myers, was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Cohowcz, who sustained minor injuries, was also taken to the hospital, along with her passenger, Mario Andrew Arnez, 23, of 1423 Kelp Lane, Naples.
Cohowcz and Arnez had been treated and released as of Wednesday.
According to hospital officials, Hughery remained hospitalized in critical condition.
“The crash remains under investigation,” Shelly Flynn, spokeswoman for the Fort Myers police, reported Wednesday.
