FHP continues investigation into fatal accident

A traffic accident that occurred over the weekend and left a Cape Coral motorcyclist dead remained under investigation Tuesday.

Joseph P. MiCale, 73, was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon after being ejected from a 1997 Harley-Davidson Cruiser that he was operating. He was not wearing a helmet, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

MiCale was traveling northeast on McGregor Boulevard when he approached the intersection at Pine Ridge Road at about 12:14 p.m. At the same time, a Toyota Matrix was headed southwest on McGregor toward the intersection.

MiCale and the driver of the Toyota, Louisa M. Johnson, 85, of Sanibel, both had a green traffic signal. According to the FHP, Johnson attempted to turn left onto Pine Ridge at the intersection and entered MiCale’s path of travel.

MiCale attempted to break to avoid a collision, but he was unsuccessful.

FHP officials reported that the investigation in ongoing.
