Community can help Cape Elementary earn grant
Cape Coral Elementary School is seeking the community’s help in earning funds to enhance programs at their school through the Clorox Company’s “Power A Bright Future” grant program.
The program began three years ago to provide more opportunities for students to play, create and explore while in school. Four $25,000 grants and one $50,000 grant will be provided to the winning schools.
Julie Ingraham, speech language pathologist at Cape Elementary School said she found out about the grant by watching television. She said the commercial came on after the show “Parenthood.”
Cape Coral Elementary School was nominated for an explore category program that wouldl allow them to purchase additional technology related resources for students in the exceptional student education program. The grant, would allow them to purchase touch screen devices for speech therapy, as well as in the classroom.
The touch screen devices would help students who have difficulty with writing.
“They can use the screen to practice writing instead of using the pencil,” Ingraham said.
The device also has interactive books on them to engage the students in trying to figure out what specific things on the page do.
The community can vote for Cape Coral Elementary School once a day until Dec. 9, either online and through a text message. Individuals can vote by visiting:
www.powerabrightfuture.com or by sending a text to 44144 and type in clorox7578. She said individuals can vote once through a text and once online every day.
As of Friday morning, the school had 455 votes.
Ingraham said they need people to vote for their school to win the grant.
The explore category focuses on enriching academic opportunities, the play category focuses on helping kids thrive outside of the classroom and the create category provides art focused programs and resources for students.
The new category, Judge’s Choice, will select one winner that helps kids thrive and provides an impact at the school.
