Cape man charged with battery after incident at toll plaza
A Cape Coral man is accused of trying to strike another motorist at a toll plaza, grabbing and ripping her sweatshirt and calling her a vulgar name.
Terrance Lee Grable, 49, of 1407 S.W. Fourth Court, was arrested and charged Friday night with battery touch or strike another against their will. He was booked into the Collier County Jail, according to official records.
As of Monday, Grable had been released on $1,000 bond.
He could not immediately be reached for comment.
At 6:44 p.m. Friday, a driver and her passenger reported to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper stationed at the 100-mile toll plaza on eastbound Interstate 75 that they had just been assaulted and battered by a man.
They stated that the man, later identified as Grable, was upset with the woman’s driving and stopped in the Sun Pass lane and exited his vehicle. He approached their car, which was behind his, and called the woman a name.
Grable then reportedly attempted to strike the woman but missed.
He next grabbed her hooded sweatshirt and started to pull on it, ripping it. According to an arrest report, the two screamed at Grable to return to his vehicle, at which time he did and left the scene heading eastbound on I-75.
The FHP trooper alerted other officers to the make and model of Grable’s vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Corvette bearing the Florida license plate GRABLE1. Grable was stopped by troopers at mile marker 59 and taken into custody.
The victim and her passenger identified Grable as the alleged driver.
Grable has a court date scheduled Nov. 23, according to records.
