Services have been set for an 8-year-old Bokeelia boy who died Saturday, Oct. 15, from injuries suffered in a two-car crash in Cape Coral.

Services for Trey Parsons of Phillips Street will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m., at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Rd.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Trey was pronounced in the Lee Memorial Hospital Surgical Intensive Care Unit shortly after 6 p.m.

He was a student at Pine Island Elementary School.

The accident occurred at Pine Island Road and Burnt Store Road South at 2:50 p.m.

According to a release issued by the Cape Coral Police Department, David B. Parson, 46, crossed the intersection into the path of William C. Byer, 35, of Parkcrest Boulevard in Fort Myers.

Byer was southbound on Burnt Store Road approaching Pine Island Road in the outside lane in a 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Parson was driving a 1994 Chevy Cavalier and attempted to turn onto Pine Island Road, according to witness accounts cited by police.

The pickup struck the right passenger door and front right quarter panel of the car.

Trey, who was riding in the right front seat of the Cavalier, was critically injured. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Parsons was transported first to Cape Coral Hospital and later to the emergency room at Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated for fractured ribs, a fractured wrist, and other injuries, according to police.

Byer’s injuries were reported as non-life threatening. He was transported by EMS to Cape Coral Hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash and all occupants in both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts, police said.

Trey is survived by his parents, David and Roberta; brother, A.J., sister, Cassie; grandparents, Jack Parsons, Jane DelGado; grandmother, Dorthy Tellas; Grandpa and Nana Jackson; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
