Constructing permitting increases in unincorporated Lee County
Construction permitting in unincorporated Lee County during Fiscal Year 10/11 was up over the previous fiscal year for single-family residences, multi-family units and new commercial structures, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.
The biggest gainer was commercial permitting, valued at nearly $126.5 million, more than four times the value of $31.4 million in fiscal 09/10. The commercial spike is attributed mostly to the new Red Sox spring training facility and a mental health hospital now under construction.
During the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2011, permitting for multi-family units increased 33 percent to 136 compared to the 102 issued in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2010. Lee County issued 374 single-family permits in FY ’11, up slightly from the 371 issued in FY ’10.
For the month of September, contractors pulled 27 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at $6.3 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 37 permits issued in August and 23 issued in September 2010.
Permits were issued for 74 multi-family units, including a 68-unit apartment complex for senior citizens to be built by the Diocese of Venice at Pope John Paul XXIII Church, south of Fort Myers. That compares to 18 units in August. No permits for multi-family units were issued in September 2010.
Permits for seven new commercial structures were valued at more than $6.5 million in September, compared to $10.8 million in August and $4 million in September 2010.
