Cape Coral Art League ‘season’ will open Monday

The Cape Coral Art League will kick off another season on Monday with its first general meeting and a membership art show.
The general meeting, which will be held on the first Monday of every month until April, will begin at 9:30 a.m. A demonstration will be provided once the meeting is over by Dominick Bello on woodcarving.
“The demo usually is to promote the attendance in the class,” said Cape Coral Art League first vice president and public relations director Marjorie Ewell. “It gives people an idea of what to expect.”
The class, “Introduction to Woodcarving,” which will be taught by Bello, will begin on Oct. 12 from 1-4 p.m.
The first show of the season, “Color our World” will also begin on Monday.
Ewell said they usually have between 40-60 paintings for the membership show on display.
“The member can submit up to three paintings to be exhibited,” she said. “Nothing is juried out.”
A wine and cheese reception, which will be open to the public, will be held on Oct. 6 from 5-7 p.m.
On Monday the league will begin functioning on its regular schedule, Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The gallery gift shop will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on the same days.
The Cape Coral Art League is still accepting memberships, which will be prorated for the remainder of 2011 for $10. The membership will provide a discount for classes and workshops, exhibits in monthly shows, along with inclusion in the Art Council of Southwest Florida.
Ewell said they currently have about 225 members.
The Cape Coral Art League is at 516 Cultural Park Blvd.
