Annual aquarium exhibit to open at Cape Arts Studio

2 min read

The annual aquarium exhibit at the Cape Coral Arts Studio will begin Friday for all those who wish to enjoy various mediums of artwork of “Life Beneath the Waves.”

The exhibit will be held from Sept. 2-29.

Cape Coral Art Studio Supervisor Cher Bear Bell said they had 30 artists submit 47 pieces for the annual Aquarium Exhibit this year. The artists had to submit their work no later than noon on Monday.

Last year’s exhibit featured 46 artists and 78 pieces of artwork.

Each artist had the opportunity to submit up to two of his or her original art pieces that were real, imaginary, realistic or abstract depictions of life beneath the waves.

Bell said she thinks the show is popular because it is very dramatic, along with having a curiosity appeal for those viewing the artwork. She said it also brings attention to the undersea life, which is an important theme in all aspects of our coastal environment.

“It’s the most unusual gallery exhibit in Southwest Florida,” Bell said about the aquarium exhibit. “There are lighting and sound effects that alter your mood and perception from the moment you walk in.”

The special lights and sound effects are intended to make individuals feel like they are walking under water.

The first, second and third place winners of this year’s exhibit will be determined on Wednesday. A reception for the artists will be held on Sept. 9 from 5-7 p.m., which will give the community the opportunity to find out who the winners were, along with having a chance to see their artwork.

This is the first art show of the season for the studio, due to the gallery being dedicated to the Fine Arts for Kids camp during the summer.

The Cape Coral Arts Studio is located at 4533 Coronado Parkway in Rubicond Park and is open Monday through Saturday. For more information, call (239) 574-0802 or email Bell at cbell@capecoral.com
