Motorcyclist critically injured in crash along Del Prado
A motorcyclist was critically injured Tuesday after she lost control of her bike while attempting to avoid striking the rear of another vehicle in slowing traffic on Del Prado Boulevard.
Aileen P. Marsden, 45, of 953 N.E. Pine Island Lane, Cape Coral, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday evening, according to Cape Coral police.
The single vehicle traffic crash happened in the 3200 block of Del Prado Boulevard South shortly before 1 p.m. The bike was traveling south on Del Prado Boulevard in the right lane behind another vehicle as it slowed. When Marsden pulled to the right to avoid striking the rear of the vehicle in front of her, the motorcycle drove up onto the sidewalk and began to rotate, ejecting her.
During EMS treatment, it was determined that the driver was not wearing a helmet and she struck her head on a curb, officials said, adding she suffered a severe head injury and life threatening injuries.
She was trauma alerted by ambulance to Lee Memorial.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, a Traffic Homicide Investigation is being conducted.
