Man rescued from submerged vehicle identified
Police have identified a driver taken to a hospital Tuesday morning after he was removed from a vehicle submerged in a Cape Coral canal.
James Brown, 58, of 5019 Sands Blvd., was listed in critical condition at Cape Coral Hospital as of Tuesday evening, according to hospital staffers.
At about 10 a.m., a boater called 911 and stated that a vehicle was in a canal near 3804 Surfside Blvd. with people possibly inside. Emergency crews arrived and Brown was removed from the vehicle, a white 1996 Ford SUV.
Brown had been trapped inside the Ford as it sank to the canal bottom.
CPR was performed on Brown on the roof of the Ford before Brown was moved to the shore, according to Lt. Tony Sizemore, spokesman for the Cape police. Brown was revived and then transported to the hospital.
“We are grateful for the alertness of the citizen who called 911 without delay and gave first responders a chance to aid Mr. Brown,” he wrote in a prepared statement.
