Man charged with burglary, illegal use of credit cards

A homeless man is accused of burglarizing homes and attempting to use credit cards taken from the homes at a local grocery store.
Edgar Keller, 21, was arrested and charged Friday with two counts each of burglary of unoccupied conveyance unarmed, fraud impersonation possess or use identification of another person without consent and credit card larceny.
He was also charged with fraud illegal use of credit cards fewer than two times in six months to obtain goods money less than $100, fraud illegal use of credit cards more than two times in six months to obtain goods money $100 or more, grand theft $300 less than $5,000 and vehicle grand theft.
Keller remained at the Lee County Jail on Tuesday. He has been denied bond for violating probation on a petit theft charge that dates back to June 9.
According to the Cape police, two separate reports for a vehicle burglary were taken June 5. One vehicle was located in the 800 block of Southwest 52nd Street. The second was in the 600 block of El Dorado Parkway West.
Both vehicles were unlocked and the burglaries occurred overnight.
Among the items taken during both burglaries were credit cards, which were later attempted to be used at a supermarket in the 1600 block of Cape Coral Parkway West, police said. Keller was developed as a suspect, and the store manager identified Keller as the person who tried to use the credit cards.
On June 24, a 2008 PT Cruiser was reported stolen from a home in the 400 block of Avalon Drive. The vehicle was unlocked and a spare key was inside it.
According to police, firefighters responded later that day to a man passed out in a PT Cruiser at a gas station on Cypress Lake Drive. When firefighters tried to assist the man, he awoke and drove off. A check of the license plate revealed that the vehicle was the Cruiser reported stolen earlier that day.
The Cruiser was later located near the Cape Coral Yacht Club and the driver, Keller, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. During an interview with detectives, Keller allegedly confessed to committing several burglaries.
He reportedly burglarized unlocked vehicles near where he has been living.
Keller was transported to the county jail and booked.
He has a court appearance scheduled July 11.
