More than $23,000 worth of items, including jewelry and a firearm, were reported stolen Thursday from a home.
Cape Coral police responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Southwest 52nd Street at about 9 p.m. A woman reported that she left the house at 5:45 p.m. and returned home a few hours later to find several items missing.
According to a report, the stolen items included about 50 gold antique coins, a 14-karat gold necklace with a brown diamond pendant and a square brown diamond ring, a diamond wedding ring, an emerald and diamond ring, and five pairs of 14-karat gold earrings.
A Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum was missing from a bedroom closet.
Other items stolen were a suitcase, a pair of pearl stud earrings, a heart-shaped gold necklace, a pair of diamond stud earrings, five gold chains, a pair of 14-karat brown diamond earrings, a diamond white gold heart with a ruby, a flip video camera and a Nintendo Wii console, according to the report.
The missing items are valued at approximately $23,405.
The woman told police that she entered through the garage and found the interior door to her home open and her dog came running out. Inside, she saw a desk had been rummaged through and an empty luncheon meat container was sitting on the kitchen counter, along with a knife.
In the living room, the flatscreen television was sitting on the floor next to the front door and the TV stand was open and things had been removed. She told police that the missing jewelry had been in a box in the master bedroom.
Police observed pry marks on the front door and the rear French doors, where it appeared entry was made. A crowbar was left on a chair on the back lanai. The woman estimated that it would cost $2,000 to fix or replace the rear French doors.
